Vintage DJ Rafik mixtape

I almost forgot about this one. Homeboy says he stumbled upon an mp3 version of it on some Russian message board. This milestone of German turntablism was released on cassette tape in 2003, limited to 1000 copies. Gotta love those Russians. This is what they say: “This mixtape of the Lordz Of Fitness crew member contains a fresh selection of the finest and rare underground hip hop, stacked up with some evergreens, lots of exclusive skits and skratch action laced by the 5 times ITF-world & DMC world champion himself.” На здоровье!

It’s been a hot minute since I heard the last mixtape that was rotationworthy enough to be bumpin’ on my system non-stop. Dip dawg kicks off Brooklyn-based multimedia graphic collective Pomp & Clout‘s new mix series by delivering 60 minutes jam-packed with 60s rock&roll, 70s deep soul, 80s acid rock, 90s punk rock by the likes of The Sonics, The Silver Apples, Rotary Connection, Ken Nordine, The Hard-ons and even a Portuguese version of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black”. No tracklisting revealed, but highly enjoyable from the first to the very last minute.

Big City Bright Lights

Hong Kong based brand CIPHER recently launched the mixtape project “Big City Bright Lights“. The idea behind it is to have 10 artists based in Hong Kong contribute a 10 minutes mix each, inspired by the city of Hong Kong itself. The man behind the visuals is no one less than HK’s lord of the lens, Laurent Segretier. It’s a 8 year old mixtape of mine, dedicated to the golden years in rap music, the 90s!
I recorded this with my homeboy / brofromadifferentmo DJ Han Shock in 2001!
2 x 45 minutes (It was actually released and distributed on TAPE!! Can you believe that?!)

60 of the most important rap tunes from the 90s in a fast mix.

Recorded live, in one take, with 3 turntables and a hell lot of Vinyl.
You can actually hear it crackle!
Recorded on DAT, No software, no computer gimmicks, no serato, no effects.
All dues paid.
Merely the intro was recorded with a 4-track recorder.

I’m having such a blast listening to this right now!!!
Btw, we were the first ones in Germany to come out with a 90s theme mixtape like that.
After us, dozens followed.
Anyone disagreeing- holla and correct me if I’m wrong.
