Vintage DJ Rafik mixtape

I almost forgot about this one. Homeboy says he stumbled upon an mp3 version of it on some Russian message board. This milestone of German turntablism was released on cassette tape in 2003, limited to 1000 copies. Gotta love those Russians. This is what they say: “This mixtape of the Lordz Of Fitness crew member contains a fresh selection of the finest and rare underground hip hop, stacked up with some evergreens, lots of exclusive skits and skratch action laced by the 5 times ITF-world & DMC world champion himself.” На здоровье!

HYPE NASTY # IX pics

Kuala Lumpy

I just gots back to HK from a lil’ weekend trip to Malaysia with famslice Rafik, y’all. I think I slept like only 2 hours (on the plane), so don’t be mad if I sound slightly confused.

We didn’t even spend full 48 hours in Kuala Lumpur, but  I gotta say that I’m positively surprised by the Muddy City. You pretty much get the full package of the South East Asian vibe, minus the convenience and sterility of Singapore, and minus the grimy- and roughness of Indonesia. Also good to finally actually see the Petronas Towers, an amazing piece of architecture I’ve always been admiring.

The thing about Malaysia that amazed me the most though, was, by far, the edibles. An infinite variety of a fusion of Malay, Indian, Thai and Chinese cuisine. I pretty much ate till it hurt during my entire stay, let me break down some highlights. Lay your eyeslots upon this fried Stingray, served on a banana leaf:

A more or less common, but definitely not average veggie curry:

Leng Chi Kang for dessert, quail egg in the middle:

If you ain’t hungry as a vulture right now, there might be something wrong with you. Hm. Then again, you probably don’t give a fuck about what I’ve been nourishing on. Wanna see retro-oriental-looking railway stations instead?

Nah, you probably wanna see Rafik and me tearing the club up. Check out the dude’s back. Mad sweaty. The fucker keeps on nagging me to go out there to grab some food, as I am writing this. Leo + leo is a tough, tough combination, as much as I love the chap.

h8 u s0 much, early flights. But every cloud has a silver lining: South East Asian sunrise!

Many, many thanks to Alex Lee and Ray Rox, who treated us like family out there. Highly fucking appreciated.

Bonus: some vintage Malay pop for your earslots:

Protection from what? Ze Germans!

It’s about time, actually long overdue that I’m posting this vid, assuming errbody has already seen it anyway. Silly assumption! FYI, this juvenescent but handsome looking chap (pause) is not only one of my closest allies, but also the only Kraut holding more DJ world champion titles than m’self. Not to mention he’d murk me to slices in a head-to-head battle nowadays. He’s also the only bloke I know who has 4 ears, 3 nips, a faible for bulky luggage on flights and the extraordinary ability to whistle “Alle meine Entchen” through the slight gap between his front teeth. On top of that, he’s the inventor of the Autobahn Scratch, brews a damn magnificent cup o’ latte and can cook up quite a decent Auflauf, too. Oh btw, this vid shows a re-recorded / re-edited version of his 2007 DMC world champion routine.

Single ladies, myspace him HERE.

Bonus: Here’s 2 slightly cheesy but dope mixes we’ve recorded together 3 years ago for Tokyo based radio station Samurai.fm while being locked up in a tiny Düsseldorfian hellhole, crusted with pizza, beer and bongwater. The links have been down for a while, so I took the freedom to re-upload for y’all.

PS broseph if you read this, I’m glad you finally got over your silly ass magic card trick phase. Lulz.
